From the same folks that brought you bite-heavy Blood Energy Potion comes Zombie Blood, to satisfy all your cravings for undead energy. Packing 80mg of caffeine per serving, Zombie Blood is perfect for nights you must stay vigilant – apocalyptic nights. So it was only fitting that just as I cracked open a unit for a taste the power cut out. Welcome to my zombie apocalypse.

Zombie Blood, harvested from the freshest of zombies by Harcos Laboratories, is milked (yes, milked - their word not mine) from the undead and comes out lime flavored, rife with caffeine and some kind of proprietary blend. Right on the bloody fingerprinted package is the recommendation to drink the stuff at room temp. I doubted this approach so I drank half as instructed and popped the other half in the fridge, which turned out to be a good idea as the website recommends the stuff chilled. I guess zombies are just contrary like that. The stuff doesn’t really improve on cooling so much as it prompts the notion that it might work as a Jell-O shot (Disclaimer: Neither I nor N4G and its affiliates condone the combination of caffeinated and alcoholic beverages, particularly when zombies are involved).
At either temp, the first hit was strongly reminiscent of Red Bull and synthetic fruitiness culminating in the realization of the liquid doppelgänger: Fla-Vor-Ice! I wanted a second opinion, and this is where it got tricky. Do I turn to zombie enthusiast, Toby, or caffeine addict and Fla-Vor-Ice aficionado, Mark? Both, of course. Toby’s affinity for the undead wasn’t enough to win him over to the green stuff, but Mark (with his affinity for never sleeping) thought the drink held promise.
Ultimately, Zombie Blood isn’t something you drink for the taste, unless you’re one of those people that really love the flavor of energy drinks and/or melted Fla-Vor-Ice. The siren song of Zombie Blood is that it will give you a caffeine zap in a more interesting format than Red Bull. At $4 a unit, however, the gimmicky consumable doesn’t come cheap. Factor in the cost to your pride as you pick it up at your local Hot Topic, and you may find yourself imbibing more run-of-the-mill fluids, at least until your release party for Dead Rising 2.
Units of Zombie Blood are sold through FYE, Fry’s Electronics, Hot topic, Micro Center, ThinkGeek and Tiger Direct as well as online.

2No, they can’t get the caffeine and HFCS out of the zombie blood. It’s crazy. I think it may be where HFCS comes from, those corn subsidies are a sham.

3[...] Mostly, I’m already tired. It’s Monday morning, and E3 is sneaky, very sneaky – it’s all “I’m from Noon on Tuesday to Thursday evening, but what it means is “you will be on your feet nonstop from Sunday through Friday”. Jerk. I need some of that Zombie Blood. [...]
