Having recently participated in some sort of executive torture exercise disguised as a Wii sports competition and consequently bowled his way to fame and glory, it struck my Dad as an excellent plan to acquire a Wii for the holidays. He wasn’t wrong – the Wii really is the perfect console for him (confirmed during a recent visit when I lured him to into playing assorted systems) and seemed an excellent choice for some fun, egg-noggy family time. So he bought one.
The first night we arrived we played about an hour’s worth of Wii Sports, and the next afternoon decided to have at it some more. Nothing. No, in decided rebellion the Wii would not even turn on. With heartbroken father in tow we took it to the Best Buy mere days before Christmas so that the dark news could be confirmed: they would refund the money, but there were no replacements to be had.
Telling my Dad he had earned some gaming street cred with a failed system was all I could think of as consolation (the suggestion that he purchase a PS3 and LBP wasn’t a winner), though really I think it must have been faulty power supply. The only other possibility is that that my brother cursing at Wii Golf like the marine on liberty he was simply melted the cheery fairy spirits the Wii undoubtedly runs on.
