• There’s no Escaping Nolan North

Nolan North, better known as Nathan Drake, is a talented guy, and apparently very busy. While I haven’t confirmed this with the voice talent list of Stormrise, tonight’s review on X-Play included snippets of what sounds like his dulcet tones. Immediately following Stormrise was a bit on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in which North definitely voices Deadpool.

As I mentioned when North was revealed as Prince of Persia, I can hardly begrudge the guy his work, but he’ll always be Drake to me. Of course, for all the Nolan North I’m catching nowadays, Wikipedia reveals his repertoire is quite extensive. Among them Fable 2 (Male Hero – I guess he grunted?), MGS4, Halo Wars (Forge) and Goldeneye.

Those revelations very nearly force me to rescind some of my earlier complaints about using recognizable voice talent for different roles – nearly. Sure North slipped under the radar voicing Male Hero in Fable II, but I still find it very distracting to hear the voice I firmly associate with Drake as Deadpool or PoP.

That Stormrise is not currently listed in North’s considerable oeuvre does suggest that the voice I hear may be a rather fascinating sound-alike, and given how far reaching the guy’s voice work is it’s just as likely as not. Odds are, North is in a game you’re playing right now -the Stormrise review, for your consideration:
